Hey and welcome.



I'm Jac Kyles Baker, avid cook, baker and eater. And the writer and photographer of frugaux.  


With frugaux, I'm sharing my home cooking experience and knowledge of transforming pantry staples and easy to find (mostly) ingredients into high quality dishes.


I enjoy cooking from scratch.  I learned over the years that cooking from scratch need not be complicated or expensive.  Cooking and baking from scratch is a lifelong learning process for me.  And fun.


I won't claim that my recipes are quick and easy. It's not uncommon to have several failures before an "easy" or "simple" recipe is mastered.  


I don't know the origin of "easy as pie."  That wasn't my experience when I started making pies.  Same for biscuits.


Your grandmother's cooking and baking seems effortless.  But take a minute to consider how long your grandmother's been cooking and baking... and for the number of people she fed.  That demystifies it a little without diminishing the quality of her cooking and baking.


So your grandmother or grandfather, mother or father, great aunt and great uncle was a kitchen wizard.  You can be one, too.  All it takes is what you don't want to hear: patience and practice.
