Makes 1 cup
Ingredients
2 cups orange peels from about 4 medium oranges
1 cup warm water
1 cup sugar
Preparation
Tightly pack orange peels into a 2 1/4 cup mason jar or other glass container with a lid.
Pour water over peels. Close jar with the lid and let steep at room temperature for eight hours or overnight.*
Add sugar to an 8 oz. bottle or jar. Strain orange water. Reserve a few peels. Cut peels into narrow strips.
Add orange water to sugar in bottle. Close tightly with the bottle top. Shake bottle until sugar dissolves. Add orange peel strips.
Store in the refrigerator.
Cook's Notes
*I steeped the orange peels in the morning and made the simple syrup at night. I was satisfied with the orange flavor.
I can't vouch for the flavor or strength when orange peels are steeped longer than 8 hours.
